Programs

Barksdale PTA offers many programs including after school activities, Reflections art program and more.

Reflections Diversity MeansReflections. Each year, the PTA Reflections Program challenges students to create art inspired by a specific theme, and students submit entries to Barksdale PTA. Reflections rules and forms are on the forms page.

Drama Kids Program. The PTA is pleased to offer this fall a drama program for students in 3rd through 5th grades. We offer a class either on Monday or on Friday – you choose the one that fits your schedule the best. Spanish Program. Classes held at Barksdale! Download the Spanish Program flyer [pdf] or check the Spanish Schoolhouse website for Barksdale’s dates and times.

Science Enrichment Program. Here is more information on Brainopolis [pdf file], registration form and waiver.

Chess Program. The chess program is for all students interested in chess and in learning new strategies with fun, terrific instructors! They meet in the Barksdale library from 2:45 to 4pm. Download the Chess program form [pdf] for more info or register online (instructions follow). Contact chess@barksdalepta.org for more information.

How to register for chess:

  1. Register online at www.usachess.com.
  2. Click on the Register Now button for “School program registration.”
  3. Select TX.
  4. Select Plano, Barksdale Elementary.
  5. Fill out the rest of the form and submit it.

Special and Gifted Education: SAGE. Group of dedicated volunteers who work together to provide education, communication and support for families. Visit Plano PTA’s SAGE website or contact Barksdale’s stage chair.

Other Programs

Jogging Club. Barksdale Broncos in Training (BIT) is our morning jogging club that meets on Monday and Wednesday at 7:15am. BIT members meet on jogging course on the north side of the school. Plano Academic and Creative Education (PACE): This is a school-based program. If you want information about PACE, please contact Laurie Kane or visit PISD’s PACE page.

Marathon Kids. Marathon Kids is completely free and loaded with lots of incentives along the way. The students can begin logging their miles this week by walking, jogging or running 26.2 miles in small increments. Miles can be completed at home or at school. Jogging club members can even count their morning miles. Please remember that all mileage must be done on foot.
